Lillian was a very active and dedicated member of Congregation Tifereth Israel for many decades. She involved herself in mostly every function of the Temple and cared about the survival of the temple and Jews in general. She was outgoing and interested in others, always inquiring with a clear recollection of our last conversation. She was a big support to my mom, Gloria Cappel, during her term as Sisterhood president and, I believe they worked together in Hadassah and B'nai B'rith. After Lillian's parents passed on, my folks purchased their condo in West Palm Beach in 1982, so our families enjoyed a special little bond on that connection as well. Whatever Lillian did, she served with heart and enthusiasm and she touched a lot of lives. The world is definitely a better place because she lived in it! She will live on in our hearts through the wonderful memories we have of her! She's probably an organizer and a leader up in heaven, too!

Lillian was very special to me though I didn’t know her very long. Still, we spent many hours chatting and talking about her life and about CTI which was a special place for her. I will miss her greatly but grateful to have known her! Condolences to her family. Judy Novick

I never saw Lillian when she didn't make me feel loved and cared about. She was such a large part of the Temple and we will miss her so much. Recently saw each other on Rosh Hashona. I would always look back to where she sat to make sure she was there and all was right with the world. She was always so warm and smiling. A whole era of the synagogue has passed with Lillian. We're so, so sad today. Chris (& Mike) Swirnoff

I have to say I considered Lillian to be a part of our family. My daughters referred to her as Grandma Lillian when they were small.
We took Jessica and my daughter Julie ice skating at Christopher Morley Park when the girls were school age.
We served on temple committees together. Also Lillian helped me with knitting which she was very skilled at.
Most of all, she was a caring and concerned friend. We will miss her and never forget her!

I could not have asked for a more passionate, dedicated or hardworking partner in the leadership of Congregation Tifereth Israel. It was the later 1990's. The world was different and the Synagogue subsumed both of our lives, hearts and souls. We were at different parts of our lives, but CTI meant the world to both of us. We found common ideals, values and a sense of purpose and partnership together. They were fine years for both of us. We were the most unlikely trench buddies. We went our separate ways thereafter, but I was lucky to rediscover Lillian again years later. It was a joy to have her back - a lifetime later. We were both different people, but we bonded over beautiful memories. I and my family were blessed to share holidays with Lillian and enjoy her smile and joy in being included. For me, she was a symbol of strength, resilience and dedication. She managed her challenges with grace and determination. She accepted. She never complained. She lived a life of purpose. She will not be forgotten..... Lisa Buchsbaum Pollack

I first met Lillian in 1985, my first day on the job as a math teacher at North Shore Middle School. Fresh out of SUNY Oswego that year I was happy to meet a fellow alumni, Lillian, working right across the hall. Over the next few years Lillian would become my mentor, teaching me everything from how to help students understand adding fractions to how to use my classroom windowsills to store geraniums over the winter. I still have the VCR tape of Donald Duck in Mathmagicland she gave me when she retired! I remember festive school parties she hosted at her home in Glen Head, where I got to know her husband Larry and had the chance to meet her sons, of whom she was so very proud. Lillian was one of the sweetest and most loyal souls I have ever met and it was a great honor being her friend. I hope it is a consolation to her family knowing how many lives she touched, her colleagues and the hundreds of former students. Thank you for sharing Lillian with us all.
