Jeremy Kempton's impact on me was profound. During the five years I was under his directorship at the North Shore Middle School and High School, he taught me to love music, stay disciplined, and always be professional in everything I did. He was incredibly dedicated to his students. I am so grateful I knew him

Jeremy was one of the kindest, most caring mentors of young musicians offering all four of our children the valuable opportunity to play solo with his orchestra multiple times over many years. He took a personal interest in all whom God put in his path and will be remembered for the genuine warmth he offered to all who knew him. His passing comes as a great shock as he remained vibrant to the end and we have no doubt that he will be missed by many. He and his loving wife Patty remain in our prayers. We have offered a mass in his memory at our church, St. Gertrudes in Bayville, on Sunday, March 8 at 9:30a, our weekly children's mass given Jeremy's enormous heart for the young. WIth our love and prayers, Lisa and all the Kende family

I was very sorry to hear about Mr. Kempton's passing. I was in 9th grade at North Shore High School when Jeremy Kempton arrived. He took his job very seriously, and worked diligently to maintain high performance standards. We worked together in the concert band, the marching band, the jazz band, summer band, and in the pit for musicals. I so appreciate all the work, time, and attention that Mr. Kempton devoted. I'm so grateful for the opportunities and friends I made because of the school's music program - and the band in particular. The band room was a 2nd home. Thank you, Jeremy.

Jeremey was an inspiration to our sons Chris and Robert. He helped grow their love of classical music so much so that they played at All County, MYO and Summer Festivals at C W Post. They now listen to classical music as they drive and take college friends to symphonies. We all loved his warm personality and stories of his many adventures. Jeremy will always be remembered by our family and missed dearly.
Fondly,
The Sharkey Family

It is with much sadness that I learned of the passing of my former High School Band Director Mr. Kempton. He was very helpful to me and my brother in our music education and helping us in making college choices. He also was extremely helpful to my brother Chris in developing his bass trombone playing. He was a great inspiration to us and the Band in developing our music talents. He provided many fine experiences for us and I continued to perform with him after graduating from college. My condolences to his family. I will miss him very much!! God bless him.
Very sincerely,
Peter Trinche class of 1973 and
my late brother Chris Trinche class of 1974

I'm saddened to hear the news of Mr. Kempton's passing and I wanted to express my gratitude for all he did for NSHS music department and for the gift of music that he gave me. Music was a big part of my high school life; concert band, marching, woodwind ensemble, stage band. Involvement in these groups kept me involved in school and helped me forge friendships that last to this day. I can't imagine the logistics that went into organizing trips like marching in the NYC Columbus Day parade and going to Canada to play. I'm sure we didn't express our gratitude at the time, but I hope he knew what wonderful experiences he was providing for us. Thank you, Mr. Kempton.

Mr. Kempton directed the stage band, jazz band and marching band during my years at North Shore High School and Junior High. I played in all three, so musical rehearsals and performances were a big part of my life during those years. Mr. Kempton was always there, a calm presence keeping us focused and moving forward. I think of him often with gratitude for how he shaped my experience with and appreciation of music.

My heartfelt condolences to Jerry's family. I will certainly miss Jerry and am grateful for having known him. Jerry was a dear friend and brass musician colleague of mine for the past 30 years. We first met at the North Shore Symphony Orchestra and he led me to the Massapequa Philharmonic Orchestra, after a brass quintet performance at a CW Post graduation in 1990. I always enjoyed performing alongside Jerry on trombone. He was a consummate musician. I had the honor and pleasure to also play under his direction with his Island Chamber Symphony several times and with a special wind ensemble of his in Brooklyn. 20 years ago, Jerry encouraged me to adopt a child. Today I am a proud father of a 21 year old daughter. Thank you Jerry!

Jeremy Kempton was a huge part of the music program at NSHS and so many of us have the best memories of playing in the band with him at the helm. We played a lot of high school kid pranks and he always was able to roll with the punches and keep us in line but also have fun. His contributions live on in all of us and he will be greatly missed. Sorry for your loss and may your own good memories sustain you during this difficult time.

So sorry to hear about Mr's Kempton's passing. I entered high school in his first year there, took private lessons with him for 4 years and played in Summer band for several years under his direction after I graduated. He was a very good man and musical director. He was extremely dedicated, running a variety of musical groups and spending all those hours drilling the marching band. I've been reminiscing with my old class mates the past day since we heard of his passing, all agreeing about the pride we had in our musical program. Those were some of the best times of my life and he was a big part of it.
