Because of the alphabetized order used in our home room seating, James sat behind me through our four years in Chaminade. I recall him to have been a gentleman (literally), a classmate who observed the rules and excelled in both studies and sports. He was a young man who didn't seem to think of himself or his accomplishments as superior to anyone else's, though they clearl were. You could say of him, he had an innate dignity of character and manner that rose above the typical rowdiness of his peers. Certainly they did my own.
I am sorry that he's left us this soon, at least it seems soon to me since I was born as he was in 1941. I count myself fortunate to have known him and wish to extend my condolences to his surviving family. He was a kind and good man. Yours, George McCartney

Suzanne and Family,
Glenda and I extend our deepest Sympathy on Jim's passing.
We have such fond memories of the time we were able to spend with you both.
Jim was a dear friend. I particularly remember the many games of golf and squash. Jim hosted me at the University Club on a number of occasions.
Always the gentleman with an impish sense of humour, he will be sadly missed.
Sincerely,
Peter Wilson

Jim, we love you dearly. You are a special friend who enhanced the life of everyone you touched. Our prayers and memories are with you through eternity. We know you will look down on your family and give them guidance and protection forever. If only you could do the same for my golf game.

Dear Suzanne, Suzannah, and James,
There were many things I admired and enjoyed about Jim, among them, his warm friendship, an easy manner, sportsmanship, a fine sense of style, and his humor. Such traits were what the word “gentleman” was coined for. We, among his friends, won’t have experiences to share with Jim anymore, but we will keep the memories and our feelings.
Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to you all, knowing the loss will be harder for you. We will be praying and thinking of you. R & J.

Mrs McClain, Suzannah and James,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. McClain was always such a gentleman and very kind to me. I enjoyed running into him at various events over the years. We always had nice conversations and he would update me on how you all were doing. I know it’s not easy losing someone so special and close to you especially this time of year. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
