Obituary of Daniel Joseph Coleman, II

COLEMAN, Daniel J. II of Glen Cove, NY passed on September 25th, 2022 at age 90. Daniel was a devoted father who lived an amazing life. He was born and raised on a farm in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Most of his working career was spent at Hearst Magazines where he excelled in business to become publisher of Popular Mechanics in Manhattan. Daniel was also a talented pianist and singer. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame where he was the lead baritone in the Notre Dame Glee Club and sang on the Ed Sullivan Show. Daniel was the choir director for many years at Our Lady of the Valley in Wayne, NJ. Among his other passions was aviation. He loved to fly and earned his pilot’s license when his first employer, Meredith Publishing in Chicago, allowed him use of the company Cessna. Daniel will be remembered for his “damn the torpedoes” philosophy of life, intellect, quick-wit and humor.

Husband of the late Helen and loving father of Daniel J. III (Laurie), Colin (Barbara), Mary Rose, Christina and the late Dion (Georgean). Dear brother of Karen Tuohy. Proud grandfather of Rachel, Daniel IV, Jenny, Kristin, Lauren, Dion II and Eva. Also survived by loving nieces and nephews. 

Memorial Visitation held at Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home of Glen Cove on Friday October 21st from 11am-1pm. A Graveside Service and Interment will take place on Saturday, October 22nd at 10:30am at Christ The King Cemetery in Franklin Lakes, NJ.
