Growing up we were always so excited for the holidays because that meant getting all of the “immediate family” together. Whether it was Thanksgiving, Christmas, or even a summer pool party it was always so special at Uncle Charlie and Dawnie’s (+ Johnnys!) house. You were always so excited to show off the latest decoration added to your collection. I will never forget the year you bought the leg lamp! When I brought an outsider from Chicago into the crew you didn’t hesitate to give him a hard time right off the bat and make him feel like a part of the family. I’m so glad you were able to meet Zoey and will have stories to tell her and Baby M for years to come about the great Uncle Charlie. We love you and miss you - save me an ice cream up there <3 Megan, Caleb, Zoey and Baby M

The world has lost a beautiful soul. Uncle Charlie you were more than an uncle, you were like a grandfather figure; always wanting the best for all of us. I will miss you hosting pool parties and sitting on your shoulders as we wade through the shallow end-your strength in your 80s was amazing and your love for swimming, endless. I will miss you being the referee whenever Anthony and I raced in the pool. I will miss all the stories about your dear love Liz and adventures you’ve told us during your UPS days; your favorite Scotch in hand with a cigarette. I will miss your sweet generosity in letting us borrow your beloved movies and shows. I will miss you teaching me how to drive along the Long Island beaches and trusting me behind the wheel. I will miss our diner dates and watching you drink your Coke whilst sharing your poutine. Most of all I will miss your witty jokes and your laughter...
You were a force to be reckoned with, the most genuine kind-hearted man with endless amounts of love to give, the best guardian to my Aunt Dawn and the best person to ask for advice. Through the pain of it all you still smiled and reassured us that you were ok. Knowing you for the past 10+ years in this family has been such a wonderful blessing. Thank you for all the love and support that you have shown me and I promise to continue to pass on your shining beacon of love and light. To have been able to sit by your side and hold your hand one last time was my honor. You will be missed dearly. Fly high Uncle Charlie. Love you, always.

The phrase “Good Time Charlie” was coined with my Uncle Charlie in mind. Uncle Charlie always had a smile on his face and a joke (usually a bad one) ready to share. He was always trying the latest toy or gadget. His body betrayed his age but his mind never did. If I listen carefully I’m sure I can hear the party going on above. Rest In Peace Uncle Charlie.
