Obituary of Peter W. Rapelje

RAPELJE, Peter W. of Glen Cove, NY on May 11, 2021 age 88. Beloved husband of Eleanor. Loving father of Daniel (Kathleen) and David (Catherine). Proud grandfather of Caitlyn, Paul and Melissa (Ian). Dear brother of Harry (Judy). Also survived by his loving nephew Kurt and niece Karen. Peter was very proud of his family's heritage. His ancestors came to the United States in 1623 with the Dutch West India Company. He was an avid sailor who was a member and past Commodore of Hempstead Harbor Yacht Club, member of Sewanhaka Power Squadron, and the Cedar Swamp Historical Society. Peter was Co-Chair of the Li Tungsten Task Force. He worked in the aerospace industry for Grumman Corp., and the highlight of his career was the Apollo Moon Landings. Along with sailing, Peter also enjoyed skiing and being in the outdoors. He was a devoted parishioner of the First Presbyterian Church of Glen Cove serving for many years as Elder, Clerk of session, and treasurer.

Funeral service at the First Presbyterian Church of Glen Cove, Wednesday May 26th, at 7pm. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Glen Cove.
