When I saw the e-mail about Tom Conlon's passing I immediately thought of that last second shot vs Ford in the packed gym at North 6th Street. Thank you Brother Robert for posting that picture! I think I was sitting in the first or second row of the stands and TC was very close to sideline when he took that shot. When I pledged for Pi Alpha at SFC, part of hell week was at the Conlon bungalow in Breezy Point. TC welcomed me and called me TH and then Pinball Wizard after one of my antics at a frat party on Atlantic Avenue. My condolences to Gerry and all the family.

St. Francis Prep 1966 yearbook: Tommy Conlon is carried off the court after scoring the winning basket against Bishop Ford. The score was tied in the last THREE seconds of the game. Tommy dropped the ball into the basket in time for two points.
Thanks for the memories! Tommy, you will will be remembered in the prayers of the Franciscan Brothers and all members of the St. Francis Prep community. Rest in peace.

We spent our childhood Summers at Breezy Point. We were Pi Alpha fraternity brothers at St Francis College. It is unimaginable how our Pi Alpha world will continue without this dynamic center of enthusiasm. Rest In Peace TC

T the news was shocking . Friends for over 50 years. Too many tales and stories to relate and most of them can’t be in mixed company.
From the days at College and Pi Alpha to our many get togethers over the years to the TC OPEN.
My brother who will regale the stories now.
Certainly no one will be able to do them right nor able to use your verbiage.
TC miss you already . The boys will be there to great you.
Love You Brother
Big Daddy

Nancy and I have so many wonderful memories spanning the 41 years of the friendship we shared with Tom and Mimi and Ti it’s hard to know where to begin, but I will always remember the first time Tom and I met....when he walked into my magazine publishing office in NYC resplendent in his ever present blue blazer and straight forwardly “announced” — “I need a job”, in such a disarming fashion that I hired him on the spot, and never regretted it.
Unfortunately for both of us, that particular magazine group didn’t have too much more life in it - but, so began our enduring personal relationship. And, for Tom, his new career was launched - when, as part of his job, he met barter kingpin Al Lino, who introduced Tom to a whole new world of opportunity. From then on everywhere he went he carried the barter opportunity with him. So Nancy and I got to witness at lot of deals getting done. He never gave up!!
As the decades unfolded before us the Conlons and the Nolan/O’Briens relentlessly vacationed together: quick trips to Breezy Point, to “Eagle’s Nest high above Sandy Hook in Atlantic Highlands, to our charming little lakefront cottage in north Jersey, as well as annual excursions to ski at Stratton, swim and snorkel in St John, golf on St Thomas, and finally to our beachfront home in Sea Girt - Tom’s favorite destination, where he proudly declared himself to be “the perfect guest” as Nancy described in her tribute.
To me, he was certainly that - but so much more. He was my brother.
I use the words “I love you” very sparingly: my wife Nancy Nolan, daughter Cara, son Liam (and Amy), grandchildren Owen and Zoe, my brothers and sisters, and Tom.
I have loved him for a very long time - and I will miss him very much.

Bill and I were shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Tom's death. I still can't believe it as the last time we saw him, Tom looked wonderful. Tan, dressed in his stylish outfit and ready for a good time. And we have so many memories of so many good times shared with Tom and Mimi over the past forty years.
Due to Covid this past summer, Tom was not able to visit us at the beach. We always looked forward to his visits. He called himself the "perfect guest" as he would leave the house in the morning and not return till late in the day. He played golf and spent the day at the beach. And around five, we would gather in the yard with a cocktail. And Tom with his cigar. And talk and laugh. Tom loved to have a good time and he was an excellent listener.
Some of my favorite memories of Tom include him singing and dancing to The Temptations music. He had all the moves down pat.
One time in St. John, Tom took out a a sailboat that you stand on. He kept going further out to sea and Mimi said we need to get someone to go after him because he doesn't know how to turn around. So we did, and when Tom returned he asked us why we waited so long.
Also in St. John, Tom had been taking French lessons before we arrived there. And while there, he would walk along the beach front with his French book asking "voulez vous" whatever. And would't you know, a French woman came up to him and started speaking in fluent French. The look on Tom's face was priceless as he had no idea what she was saying or how to react. But he ended up smiling that big Tom smile and putting his hands up, and she smiled and walked on.
Tom was such a unique man. A dreamer who loved life and all of its possibilities. We were so lucky to have him in our lives. We were proud to call him one of our dearest friends. And we will miss him terribly. We love you, Tom, and always will.
Our sincerest condolences to Mimi, Ti and all of Tom's family. We wish we could be with you for the service, but due to the virus, we will not be able to attend.
