Dr. John Beach was an incredible person. He was so much more than a co-worker, he instantly became my friend. We quickly bonded over children’s books, our love of animals, and our passion for cooking. When he learned that I was hosting my first Thanksgiving in 2016, he brought me a copy of the John Beach Thanksgiving Cookbook. Complete with wine pairing suggestions and an APA citation for each recipe, this massive document contained all of the Thanksgiving recipes he had cooked over the years. He sent me pictures of his Thanksgiving dinner that year and checked in on me to make sure mine turned out well. I sat with John at nearly every faculty meeting the past two years. We liked to go early to snag seats in the back by the snack table. I have never met someone with a sweet tooth like his! John absolutely deserved the best dressed award. From matching bow ties and pocket squares to holiday ties, he always looked sharp. I will miss his stories, jokes, and array of voices he used to add to the humor of his stories. Whenever you spoke to John, his love for his family shone through. John was a family man, dedicated educator, brilliant scholar, thoughtful colleague, and dear friend. I will miss him greatly. My thoughts and prayers are with John and his family.

My deepest condolences to John's entire family. John was a wonderful, warm and gracious friend as well as an esteemed and erudite colleague. He always was available to help with the difficult bureaucratic challenges few among us could approach. He contributed mightily to the advancement and success of the entire School of Education. Few volunteered for the difficult work navigating the often Byzantine procedures and processes of securing our re-accreditation. John never shied away from taking a lead role in this time consuming and unheralded task. We have inherited the fruits of his good will and work for the efficacy of the SOE faculty and administrators. He was vigilant in his work, attention to details that were critical to our department, and most of all to his students and faculty colleagues. I was fortunate to work with him as a colleagueaqahs willing to "cross disciplines" and share his views on mutual curricula. I also experienced his brave and charismatic persona and conviviality up front and personal in the face of his own Scylla and Charbydis years earlier; he captained through challenges in true Odyssean spirit. John lived an enviable learned and cultural life of beauty and grace, language and literature, in its many forms. He was there for all of us whenever he was needed. We still do.
He will be greatly missed by St. John's and our faculty and staff more than we will ever know. He left us too soon.

Thoughts and prayers to Dr Beach’s family. As a student in the online PhD program, I feel honored that I got to learn from him, even if it was just for a short month and a half. Rest In Peace, Dr Beach, and read to those children in heaven.

I worked with John for a very long time. My favorite memory of him is when our Dean sent us to Philadelphia for a NCATE meeting. We had to take the train home right after for the President's Dinner in Manhattan and our train was stopped along the route due to "unknown"circumstances. Needless to say we were a bit late, but always laughed at that story--and the fact we never knew why the train was stopped.
Rest in peace, John.
My prayers, Brett Elizabeth Blake

My dear big brother. The smart one. He picked my name from his favorite childhood story - Peter Pan. So many fond memories. Many from the neighborhood in Glen Cove. He was the biggest tease. Rest In Peace Johnny. I’ll miss you!!!!
