Kenny and I were in the same class at KA Deasy School in Glen Cove for several years. We also played Little League and Roy Campanella baseball together. I stopped attending Glen Cove schools in 1960 and Kenny entered my memory bank of a happy childhood on Long Island’s north shore. Kenny was smart, gentle, upbeat and reliable. I never heard him say a mean thing to anyone. I regularly recall Kenny and my walks home after Sunday School at St Patrick’s Church. They were unhurried and sharing strolls. Kenny was a beautiful person and this is a very late expression of my condolences to his family and those who loved him. I thank them for furnishing us with the photo of his terrific smile.

It is with great sadness that I read today of Kenny's passing. Growing up in Glen Cove in the late 50s and early 60s, Kenny, or "Doc" as he was called, was a good and popular friend among our little group from the President Streets. I recall fondly many adventures with "Doc" and the others, about which our parents were kept in the dark. I was fortunate to run into Ken about 10 years or so ago in Blockbusters in GC while he was visiting relatives, and he filled me in a bit on his life beyond high school. He was a terrific guy and little did we know that his nickname back then would predict his prominent career. Too soon, Ken, too soon.
My deepest condolences to Ken's family.

Everything remains exactly as it was.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no difference into your tone.
Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it.
Life means all that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is absolute and unbroken continuity.
What is this death but a negligible accident?
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval,
somewhere very near, just round the corner.
All is well.
Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!
I am extending my deepest, heartfelt sympathy to the family of Dr. Kenneth Simmons during this most difficult time. REST IN POWER MY FRIEND!!!

The Staff of Mumby & Simmons Dental Consultants wishes to pay tribute to our Vice President, Friend and Mentor, Dr. Kenneth P. Simmons. "DOC", as he was fondly called, was such an intricate part of our Organization that his loss has crippled us emotionally. This Organization is more than a business entity; it is a FAMILY in every sense of the word. DOC taught us, mentored us and made us laugh, all while demonstrating the importance of serving. He was never boastful, but his walk demonstrated his character. He was so accessible, that you would sometimes forget his status in the Company. His greatest moments would be spent explaining and imparting knowledge as his main objective was empowering others. Excellence was his mantra, and failure was not an option.
To Mariah, your Dad was very proud of you. He has given you the genetic markers needed to exceed in life which will be your greatest tribute to him. You have inherited a family of Aunties and Uncles who pledge their love and support. The Village is ready to step in at any time. To the remainder of the family, we pray that the love of God and the sweet communion of the Holy Spirit rest rule and abide with you forever.
