Edward Robert Flanagan passed away on April 6, 2014. He was born September 18, 1919 to the late John Francis Flanagan and Madeline Kober Flanagan in Brooklyn, New York, and spent his childhood in Queens, New York. He married the late Harriet Hoffman Flanagan in 1950 and raised three daughters in Glen Cove, New York. He served with the 52nd Medical Battalion in the Mediterranean Theater during World War II, where he earned a Bronze Star. He was a graduate of Pace College and worked with Price Waterhouse as a certified public accountant before becoming a financial adviser to the IBM Corporation in Armonk, New York. He was an active volunteer who generously lent his financial expertise to the Reformed Church of Locust Valley and to Sagamore Yacht Club in Oyster Bay, where he served both organizations as treasurer for many years; he was also a past commodore of Sagamore Yacht Club and an elder at the Reformed Church. He was a talented athlete who sailed, skied, played golf and easily excelled in sports and an inveterate tinkerer who enjoyed working with his hands. But he placed family before all his interests and accomplishments and was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his three daughters Susan, Cynthia and Melissa; and by his three grandsons Edward, James and Philip. Visitation at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas Glen Cove will be held Sunday, April 13; services at the Reformed Church of Locust Valley on Monday, April 14 at 10 AM. Donations may be made to the Reformed Church of Locust Valley.
