Obituary of Anna C. Gutierrez

Anne Gutierrez, 92, of Sea Cliff, NY passed away at home with her family, on September 21st, 2017. She came to the Village of Sea Cliff in 1969 to open Harian’s and later the Village Gift Shoppe.

Anne was born in New York City to an emigrant Slovakian family, with 5 siblings. Growing up as a first generation New Yorker, she frequented city museums, became a classical music fan and stayed involved in the arts.

She left an executive position at Bloomingdale’s to raise a daughter and work as a custom seamstress. The textile scraps of dressmaking became the media of her art. Her artworks were exhibited with Artist Craftsman and locally at the Sea Cliff Library in 2004.

Anne had an abiding commitment to social justice and ecology. She demonstrated for civil rights and against militarism. She also supported many organizations, volunteering locally for many years at the Glen Cove Inn (Soup Kitchen), the Sea Cliff Mutual Concerns senior lunch program and the Village Museum.  

Anne was grateful to spend her last years at home, in the Village she loved. She is survived by a daughter, nieces and nephews. Arrangements entrusted to Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home: 26 Franklin Ave. Glen Cove. Interment was private. www.DodgeThomas.com
