Harriet Hoffman Flanagan passed away on August 1, 2012 in her home in Glen Cove, New York. She was born July 18, 1923 to Rev. James J. Hoffman and Alethea Conners Hoffman in Watertown, New York. Harriet graduated from Hunter College with a BA in Psychology and worked at the Air Reduction Co. (New York, N.Y.) for 12 years and as a special education teacher with BOCES on Long Island for 16 years. She spent much of her life as an active volunteer with a passion for caring for others—serving at the Reformed Church of Locust Valley as an elder on the consistory, with the Women’s Guild and Scholarship Committee, and with the Girl Scouts. She was an avid outdoorswoman who snow-skied and sailed into her late ‘70s. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edward; by her three daughters Susan, Cynthia and Melissa; by her sister Eleanor; and by her three grandsons Edward, James and Philip. Visitation at the Funeral Home of Dodge-Thomas Glen Cove Tuesday 7-9pm; Wednesday 3-5 & 7-9pm. Service at the Locust Valley Reformed Church Thursday 11am. Interment Locust Valley Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Church.
