When I was growing up in Bellerose Village, Alphonse Normandia was my neighbor. That was over 30 years ago. I never forgot him. I am so sad to hear if his passing. He was a great man.

Al was a talented, creative, and funny guy, but mostly he was one of my best friends, since childhood. He was a "Mad Man" in the best sense of that term. Al, have a blast in Heaven. Walt

I'll never forget Uncle Al coming to parties in the yard. We all couldn't wait for him to draw something on us. I couldn't wait for our Christmas card every year to come. He was the first person I knew that was an artist and it thrilled me he was so talented. God bless and rest in peace.

I was saddened to hear of Alphonse's passing. I remember visiting his house, usually around Christmas, as he and my Dad were good friends and he was my godfather. I think we were all a little afraid of him, but my sister, Mary, was the one he teased. We would play the grand piano, listen to the grown-ups, talk, and then have a snack in the kitchen with the hand-print walls. He always gave me unique gifts, most of which I have to this day. The huge dictionary still gets used, the statue of the Virgin Mary is on my dresser, and the beautiful gold cross is in my jewelry box. I also remember his involvement with the volunteer fire fighters. I have a beautiful picture taken with him at my parents' 50th anniversary party.

Alphonse was a great guy. He had a great sense of humor and he got me a job at BBDO when I was in my 30's and I got a taste of the ad game thanks to him. He was a schoolmate and friend of my parents growing up and a great artist cartoonist and idea man.. all around life of the party great guy. He will be sorely missed.
