JOHNSTON, Carol K. of Locust Valley, NY on June 25, 2026 at age 93. Beloved wife of John F. Johnston, II. Loving mother of Marcia Johnston Wood (Tom), Lydia (Tom) and the late Duncan. Dear sister of Ellen Kritzman. Proud grandmother of Rebecca Patterson (Alex), Daniel Patterson (Amy), Emma Wood and Jeremy. Great-grandmother of Tully Littlefield, Rose Ng, Ivy Ng and Robin Littlefield. 

Carol attended Wellesly College, Class of 1955 with a Botany major. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Glen Cove Hospital in the 1950's as well as the Visiting Nurse Association of Oyster Bay. She worked at Planting Fields Arboretum where she was the Curator of the Herbarium, in charge of educational exhibits, field trip leader and taught classes on ferns and grasses. Carol was a member of American Fern Society, a trustee of The Nature Conservancy, North Shore Wildlife Sanctuary as Vice President and Trustee, and a founding member and Treasurer of the Long Island Botanical Society where she was also a receipient of their Distinguished Service Award. 

Faith was an important part of her life, and she served as an Elder at Roslyn Presbyterian Church, and as a Deacon and Moderator of Deacons at Oyster Bay Presbyterian Church. She volunteered at North Shore Men's Sheltering Program of Glen Cove and was active at Shu Swamp Preserve and Coffin Woods where they named a Kiosk the Carol K. Johnston Trail Network.
