Joseph D. Patrissi Obituary
PATRISSI, Joseph D. of Glen Cove, New York, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with brain cancer.
Joe was the cherished partner of Lynda (Lyn) Lawrence; beloved father of Danielle (Dani) Verity and MaryJo (Mary) Ligurgo ; caring son-in-laws Jason Verity and Anthony Ligurgo; adored grandfather of Skylar, Riley, Giovanni, and Antonella, who lovingly knew him as "Grandpa Joe". He is also survived by his dear niece, Genene Patrissi; nephew, Dominic Patrissi (Jessica); sister- in- law Joan Patrissi, and many loving great-nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him. Joe was preceded in death by his beloved younger brother, Dominic Patrissi, in 2024.
Joe was born June 26, 1948 in NYC to parents Ann and Daniel Patrissi. Joe proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He began his career as a NYC Corrections Officer and worked his way up to Assistant Deputy Warden for two units in the NYC Corrections Department. He was highly respected and loved throughout the department and reluctantly retired in 1999 for health reasons. During his career as a “boss”, Joe had at his side the unwavering loyalty and dedication of his friend and “brother” Tony Aurisano. Thank you “Tony My Boy” for all you did for Joe.
After retirement Joe was able to spend more time with his daughters Dani and Mary and their families, helping with the treasured little grandkids that came along. So much fun and great joy. A serious health setback was followed by an extraordinary gift of life – a heart transplant at Mt Sinai Hospital in NYC on August 3, 2016, Joe’s “heart birthday”. With this miracle, Joe was blessed with 9 more years of beautiful life to pursue his passions.
Joe’s passions were many. He loved movies, trains, drums and collections of every kind. Once Joe became interested in something he dove in completely. He loved setting up train sets for his grandkids, watching old movies over and over with his kids and grandkids as they grew….singing and having fun. He was a Tesla car enthusiast and loved showing his expertise driving the latest computer on wheels. Joe’s most recent accomplishment was becoming a certified NRA pistol instructor. Along with that certification came a whole new social network that he thrived in….and loved – working at the Glen Cove PBA Pistol and Rifle Range. It was here that he felt the happiest thanks to all the people he met. We are so grateful he was able to spend his last months where he felt the most alive, proud, accomplished and appreciated. Thank you to all of you who were there with Joe and supported him, especially The Posse !
Finally, the family would like to acknowledge the special loving support of Doc Howard, John Ligurgo, Christopher Hole, Steve Lollo, Tony Aurisano, Steve Nelson and “little sis” Mimi during Joe’s illness. Joe loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, neighbors and all whose lives he touched.
