ROSS, William "Barrett" of Locust Valley, NY on April 16, 2026 at Age 87.  Beloved husband of the late Alice.  Loving father of Katy (Dave Weber), Jeanne and Jennifer.  Adored grandfather of Meghan (Bobby), Dave "Bert" Weber, Emily and Barrett.  Proud great-grandfather of Bode and Natalie.  Predeceased by his siblings: Lee, Patricia, Audrey, Kevin and Jay. Dear brother in law of Maureen Ross.  Also survived by loving nieces and nephews.  Mr. Ross retired from the NYCTPD.  He was a 45 year member of the Locust Valley Fire Department and a 10 year mail man of the Locust Valley Post Office.

Born in the Bronx, Barrett served in the Army before joining the New York City Transit Police. After retiring from the force, he worked as a bartender at the Locust Valley Inn, where he became a familiar and beloved presence—like Norm from Cheers, known by all. He later worked as a mailman out of the Locust Valley Post Office.

A devoted member of his community, Barrett volunteered with the Locust Valley Fire Department for over 45 years. He was a gifted storyteller with a distinctive sense of humor and always had a tale to share.

Family was his greatest pride. He and his beloved wife, Alice, shared an extraordinary 63 years of marriage. Together, they raised three charming daughters and found joy in being grandparents and great-grandparents. He was a grateful father-in-law of Dave.  He also held a special place in his heart for his sister-in-law, Maureen, whom he cherished dearly.

Barrett was fortunate to spend 55 years on Bella Vista Street, where he was surrounded by wonderful neighbors who meant so much to him.

Visitation at Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, Glen Cove on Wednesday, April 22, 2026 from 4-8pm.  Mass at the Church Of St. Rocco on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 10:00am.  Interment to follow at Locust Valley Cemetery.
