Chrysanthi Balaskas Obituary
With a heavy heart we want to share that Chrysanthi Stournaras Balaskas passed into the next world on March 23rd, 2026 at the age of 88 after a brief but serious case of pneumonia/ARDS. Chrysanthi was the daughter of Father Nikolaos and Ioanna Stournaras, and was married to George Balaskas. She was the inspirational mother to Evangeline Balaskas-Chirico, Joanna Rouvelas, and Zoy Balaskas, a second mother to her sons-in-law, Vincent Chirico and Dr. Peter Rouvelas, and also to her grandson George Balaskas, his wife Rachel, grandson John Rouvelas, and granddaughters Maria and Sophia Rouvelas. She was Blessed with two great grandchildren, Mia and Lily Balaskas, whom she adored. She also leaves behind her beloved extended family members Vinnie and Raegan Chirico, Paul Chirico and Grant Thomas Chirico. She cherished her nieces, nephews and other beloved relatives and friends in the United States, Greece and
Scotland.
Those who knew Chrysanthi consider themselves Blessed. Her positive outlook on life, despite having witnessed armies of fascism, communism and Nazism first-hand, motivated everyone she knew to look ahead—not backwards. Her dedication to God through remembrance of the Saints, Saints Nektarios and Nikolaos in particular, reminded everyone to persevere with prayer; “kane to stavro” she would often say, in response to the most challenging circumstances. Despite
having only a few years of formal education, she enjoyed deep discussions with loved ones, that will sorely be missed.
Kalo paradiso, Manoula.
