Maria Andreotis Grigoropoulos, lovingly known to so many as “Mama G,” passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, at the age of 65, after a courageous battle with cancer that she fought with strength and dignity since 2010.
Greece was always a second home to her, where she cherished time with family. She returned from every visit with gifts, stories, and her loving insistence that everyone must go one day to see its beauty for themselves.
Maria was a devoted wife to Spiro Grigoropoulos, a proud and deeply supportive mother to Chrissy Grigoropoulos-Peleytay and John Grigoropoulos, and a cherished mama-in-law to Javier Peleytay. She would do anything to keep her children happy and safe. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, Valentina-Maria, Anastasia, and Spiro- who were the light of her life and her driving force. She was a loving sister to Kostas Andreotis and his family too.
She treasured her lifelong friendship with her best friend, Despina Tagaris and especially loved their double-date nights, where the husbands played cards and laughter filled the room.
To many others, she was not just a colleague- she was “Mama G,” the office mom. She was thoughtful, hardworking, and fiercely loyal. In business and in life, Maria led with generosity and heart. She was the original head of the closing department at Grigor Law and remained its steady foundation. Arriving as early as 6 a.m. to make sure everything ran smoothly, from sorting the mail to personally delivering clients’ settlement checks, helping anyone in need without hesitation. She treated the staff like family, making little Christmas gift bags for everyone, ordering lunch for the team each Wednesday, and showing up daily with warmth, kindness, and strength no matter what she was going through.
Maria’s love was steady and her strength was undeniable. Though cancer took her from this world, it never took her spirit. She fought bravely for nearly 16 years, always thinking of her family first. Now, we find comfort in knowing she is finally at peace, forever cozy, forever resting.
She leaves behind her beloved husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, loving friends, and extended family both here and in Greece.
Her life’s greatest mission was simple and unwavering: to raise independent, successful children grounded in strong morals and unshakable family values. That was her purpose. That was her pride. And that legacy lives on through us every single day. Mama G will be deeply missed, endlessly loved, and never forgotten.
Visiting at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection of Brookville on Thursday from 9-10am. Service at the Church to begin promptly at 10am. Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Port Jefferson.
