Obituary of Vivian Casil

Please share a memory of Vivian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Vivian (Παρασκευή) Casil of Glen Head, New York, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at the age of 75. She was the beloved daughter of the late Panos and Fani Karfakis, devoted wife of Jack, cherished mother of Stephen (Jenna) and Michael (Dana), and dear sister of Anna Sievers.

Vivian took immense pride and joy in her role as γιαγιά (grandmother) to Matthew, Ryan, Joseph, Alexander, Leo (her godson), and Callie. She adored her grandchildren and lovingly shared with them the traditions, faith, and values of the Greek Orthodox Church.

Visitation will be held at Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home of Glen Cove on Monday, January 19, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–9:00 p.m. On Tuesday, January 20, visitation will take place at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection from 10:00–11:00 a.m., followed immediately by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Flushing Cemetery. A traditional makaria luncheon will be held afterward at Laterna Restaurant on Bell Boulevard, where all are welcome.

Vivian’s family hopes she will be remembered for the values she lived by each day, her deep belief in family unity and the importance of nurturing strong bonds across generations.

She dedicated over 35 years of service as a New York City public school ENL teacher, touching countless lives with her patience, compassion, and unwavering commitment to her students.

Her devotion to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection was a cornerstone of her life. Vivian was deeply committed to engaging the youth in their faith, strengthening their connection to the community, and preserving the traditions she held dear. She served faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher for 30 years, Oratorical Festival Chairperson, Youth Sunday Organizer, Festival Volunteer, and Youth Director where she started the Little Angels, HOPE and JOY programs.

The family welcomes donations to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Resurrection.
