Obituary of Alice Ross

Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

ROSS, Alice of Locust Valley, NY on  January 10th, 2026 age 85. Devoted wife of Barrett. Beloved mother of Katy Weber (Dave), Jeanne and Jennifer. Proud grandmother of Meghan, Dave "Bert", Emily and Barrett. Great-grandmother of Bode and Natalie. Dear sister of the late John Birmingham (Joan), the late Helen Egan (the late Frank) and the late Kathleen "Chickie" McKenna (Bill). Fond sister-in-law of Maureen Ross.  Also survived by loving nieces and nephews, and also special friends at The Regency.

Born on August 8, 1940, she took great pride in her birthday—the 8th day of the 8th month, at 8 minutes past the 8th hour. She lived her life with warmth, curiosity, and a deep love for family. An avid walker, she enjoyed staying active and giving back through her volunteer work at the library. A devoted reader and freelance writer, she found joy in words, stories, and travel.

Each winter, Alice and her devoted husband, Barrett, headed to Florida to spend a few months together and made new friends. Some of her happiest times were spent at the beach and just enjoying the warm weather.

Family was her greatest pride. She and Barrett shared an incredible 63 years of marriage, raised three daughters she adored, and found endless joy in being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She treasured her sister-in-law, Maureen, who was her best friend till the end. Family reunions were always a highlight, and Christmas wasn’t complete until she had decorated the tree.

She was a talented sewer and a wonderful cook, famous for her pot roast and noodles(which her daughters wish they could duplicate). In her downtime, she could be found watching Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune. Having grown up in the Bronx, she was also a diehard fan of the Yankees.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and memories that will be cherished.

Visiting at Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home of Glen Cove on Tuesday, January 20th from 3-7pm. Mass at the Church of St. Rocco of Glen Cove on Wednesday, January 21st at 10am. Interment to follow at Locust Valley Cemetery.
