Obituary of Christine H. Higgins

Please share a memory of Christine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our beloved wife and mother, Christine H. Higgins of Matinecock, NY, passed away peacefully on December 7th, 2025 at Glen Cove Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 14th 1945 in Johnstown New York, Christine was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William F. Hesek. She graduated from Lake Erie College and later earned her masters degree in child education from Queens College, NY. During her studies she pursued her love of ballet at Lake Erie and spent a formative year abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark. Yet it was her passion for early childhood education that truly allowed her to shine.

Christine devoted many years of her life to the Greenvale School. She first lent her time and talent as a volunteer; elevating the school's auction process; and later shared her passion for learning as a teacher. Christine taught History and English, and spent many years helping to produce school plays, creating memorable performances with her students and collegues. She brought lessons to life, taking her classroom outdoors, going off script to re-enact classic historical battles, and presenting material in ways that made learning an adventure. She touched countless lives through her dedication, creativity, and joy for teaching. She was honored with the Headmaster's Award for her passion, unwavering commitment, and her independent, indomitable spirit over 29 years. Known for her unforgettable ghost stories, quick wit, and infectious love of reading and history, she left a lasting impression on generations of students.

She was a devoted beach lover who spent much of her free time at the Lattingtown Beach Club, where her warmth and guidance continued to inspire countless children and members. It was also the cherished place where her retirement celebration was held.

Christine is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Tom, CEO and Chairman of Goldshield Technologies; her sons Brendan (Suzanne), and Jason (Cathy); her daughter Courtney (Jason) Nevis of Connecticut; and five grandchildren, Jack and Pete Higgins, and Magnolia, John, and Beau Nevis. She is also survived by her sister, Barbara Taylor of Johnstown, NY, as well as four nieces, Meg, Kait, Tara, Jenny, and four nephews: Jeff, Kip, JP, and Dylan.

She will be deeply missed and forever cherished by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.

Visitation will be held at Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home on Sunday the 14th of December from 10:00 am to 2:00pm. Catholic prayers at 1:30pm. Interment is private.
