Obituary of Jimmy Wheeler
James “Jimmy” Wheeler Jr., affectionately known by his friends and family as “Blue,” of Glen Cove, New York, passed away on August 20, 2025, at the age of 70. Born January 9, 1955, in Greensboro, Alabama, Blue’s life was a testament to resilience, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved. The cherished son of the late Annie Ruth Wheeler and James Wheeler Sr., Blue was rooted in the values of community and family from a young age. He grew up in Alabama alongside his siblings—Bobby Wayne Wheeler (deceased), Larry Wheeler(deceased), Mildred Wheeler, Charles Weeler, and Tom Wheeler. After graduating high school, Blue proudly served his country in the National Guard, forging a deep sense of duty and camaraderie that would remain with him throughout his life.
In the late 1980s, Blue made the leap to New York, making Glen Cove his home and quickly becoming a beloved fixture in his community. Those who knew Blue best will remember him as determined—hardheaded and stubborn on the surface, but with a heart as big and generous as they come. Whether friend, family, or stranger in need, Blue was always the first to offer a helping hand, he had a live-in-the-moment laugh, and a smile that could light up any room. Family was the center of Blue’s universe. His dedication extended to each member of his family, and he took great joy in traveling and spending precious time with family and friends. Blue lived life on his own terms, always with a sense of adventure, community spirit, and an infectious laugh that brought comfort and joy to all around him. He leaves behind his devoted partner and soul mate, Pamela Hubbard of Glen Cove. He was a dedicated and loving father to his loving children; Michelle Williams of Alabama, Terrence Burnett (Tendra) of Kentucky, Tanesha Wilson(Kevan) of Kentucky, Tara Wheeler of Kentucky, Londale Hubbard (Lisa); and brother to his cherished siblings Mildred Wheeler of Glen Cove, Charles Wheeler of Glen Cove, and Tom Wheeler (Karine) of Anchorage Alaska. He was predeceased by his brothers Bobby Wayne Wheeler and Larry Wheeler, as well as his beloved parents, all of Glen Cove. Aunts: Mattie Wagner, Brenda Evans, Alice Evans. Uncles: Aaron Evans, and George Evans all of Greensboro Alabama. Grandchildren: Tajarvis Willams, Dejuan Willams, Auniya Little, Zitaurus Little, Camrohn Pittman-Burnett, Cayden Pittman-Burnett, Taylor Burnett, Deion Osborne, Tori Wheeler, including seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His life serves as a reminder of the impact one person can have through kindness, courage, and authenticity. Rest in peace, Blue. Your spirit will never be forgotten.
