Obituary of Raffaella Bertin

Raffaella Bertin of Glen Cove, New York died on August 17, 2025 at the age of 96.
Raffaella was born on August 11, 1929 in Portogruaro, Italy, the daughter of Giovanni and Antonietta Liut. She was raised in Valeriano, Friuli, Italy, where in 1955 she married Mario Bertin of Glen Cove and formerly of Castelnovo del Friuli. She was active in the parish of St. Patrick’s RC Church and the Mothers Club of its elementary school for many years. After the death of her husband in 1979, she also worked as a seamstress. Raffaella was dedicated to her family, friends and neighbors, having lived in the house built by her husband Mario for 70 years until her death. Nothing made her happier than cooking a meal made with vegetables from her garden and sharing it with family around the kitchen table. She celebrated the coming of summer and big and small moments in the lives of her loved ones.
Mrs. Bertin is survived by her four children: Lou (Janet) of Alexandria, VA and Middletown, RI; Paola Carey (James) of New Canaan, CT; Sandra Pfeiffer (David) of London, UK and Peconic, NY; and Patricia Bertin of Darien, CT; as well as five grandchildren: Michael and Thomas Carey, and Emma, Camilla and David Pfeiffer. She was the eldest of five children and is also survived by her sister Ilde of Padova, Italy as well as numerous nieces and nephews there. She will also be missed by her nieces Mary and Franca Franz of Ridgefield, CT.
Visitation will be held August 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dodge-Thomas Funeral Home, 26 Franklin Avenue in Glen Cove, with a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick’s RC Church, Glen Cove, at 10 a.m. on August 21st. Interment will be at the Cemetery of the Holy Rood, Westbury, NY. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. (www.stjude.org).
