Mica Czopp ( nee Chiruta)

January 3, 1926 – May 21, 2025

Mica Chiruta Czopp, born on January 3, 1926, in Ionesni, Romania, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, at her home in Milton, Massachusetts. She was 99 years old. Mica was the youngest of eight siblings and a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son Andrew (John Millette), daughters Corinna Czopp Cooke (the late Brian Cooke) and Lilliana Glueckert (Bruce Glueckert) , three grandchildren — Elissa Barnett ( John ), Kyle Glueckert (Shannon), and David Cooke — and four great-grandchildren, Eric, Nikko, Kaleb, and Tobias.

In Romania, Mica had a distinguished career as a Senior Cancer Research Associate at the Institutul Național Victor Babeș where she worked directly with the Dean and made significant contributions to the field. It was also here that she met her beloved late husband, Dr. Hans Czopp. Together, Mica and Hans contributed to the writing and illustrations of multiple textbooks on Psychopathology, which were used in medical schools across Romania. In 1964, Mica and Hans decided to leave Communist Romania to seek a better life for the family and emigrated to the United States which was a lifelong dream for them both. The family settled in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York, where they raised their children. Mica was instrumental in helping her husband establish his psychiatric practice and became his office manager where she was beloved by all of the patients.

Mica and Hans loved to explore the world and gave the love of travel to the children . It was through travel that the family all learned to appreciate different cultures and customs. Mica’s lifelong devotion to nurturing extended far beyond her own children. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing in their milestones, joys, and laughter. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she left an indelible mark on their hearts with her love, wisdom, and kindness. Mica had a passion for cultivating beauty, both in her vibrant flower garden and in her stunning floral arrangements. Her love for flowers brought joy to all who knew her, and her home was always filled with their colors and fragrances .

Mica was also a master of traditional Romanian cuisine, Mica’s kitchen was the heart of her home, where the comforting aromas of Sarmale, Mititei, and Mămăligă often filled the air, Her legendary holiday meals, prepared with love and care, will remain cherished memories for her family for generations to come.

Her journey from Romania to the United States was one of resilience, determination, and gratitude, qualities she instilled in her children and grandchildren. She often reminded them of the blessings they held and taught them the importance of family, love, and togetherness. Her motto was “Stay Strong” whenever any of us faced any obstacles or hardships on our lives. It was a motto we all took to heart. A life well-lived, Mica will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her love, strength, and warmth will continue to inspire her family and all whose lives she touched.

A private family service was held on May 27, 2025, to celebrate Mica’s life. The American Red Cross was near and dear to Mica’s heart and donations may be made in her memory.  Click Here
